Our School

St. Luke’s School is located on the Isle of Dogs in the heart of Docklands. It is a successful two form of entry school and is currently attended by over 400 pupils from 3-11 years.

There are many things that fill us with pride and love about our school. What makes the school really special is its diversity. Our Admissions Policy prioritises 60% of places for children whose parent is a practising member of a Christian Church and lives or worships within the Anglican Deanery of Tower Hamlets.  However, our school serves a culturally diverse community, and our school population accurately reflects the community that it serves. We are proud to have a school population representing a multitude of ethnic and cultural backgrounds with people of all faiths and no faith. Our school's diversity enriches the experience of learning in the school for everyone and ensures that we are able to fully prepare our children for successful and fulfilling lives beyond their time with us.

At St. Luke's, enthusiasm for learning is in abundance. We harness every opportunity available to us to provide the children with a rich experience that fosters a love of learning in every child that will serve them well in life.

We believe that at the heart of every successful school, are positive and caring relationships. These begin with our very supportive staff team who work closely in partnership to learn from each other and provide the very best for the children entrusted into our care. Children witness strong relationships every day which in turn informs their learning. Additionally, staff build strong relationships with the children they are working with, so that the children feel safe and secure, able to be challenged and to have a go, also to receive feedback well, learning and progressing as a result.

Furthermore, we extend our embrace to the parents we serve to ensure that in partnership together, we can provide an excellent education for all children and enable them to flourish.

Our school is open to serve our community for 50 out of every 52 weeks in a calendar year. The only two weeks that we close the school fully for are the Christmas holidays. For the rest of the year, children can arrive at school for our 'school run' Breakfast club that starts at 7:30am Monday - Friday. They can also stay beyond the normal school day until 6pm in our After School Club. The After School Club is run by an external organisation called Energy Kidz. Details of how to register with that club can be found here: https://www.energy-kidz.co.uk/

What is detailed here is our core wrap around care provision. We also have a multitude of different clubs that complement this, and provide for a range of children's interests. These are listed for further information in the curriculum pages of this site.

We are also immensely proud of our facilities. Despite being an inner city school in Zone 2 of Central London, we are blessed with a vast amount of space. Each of our Nursery and Reception year groups have their own playground providing them with access to learning in the outdoors throughout every day enabling full coverage of the statutory Early Years Curriculum.

We have developed a wild life area to mean that our children can also have a Forest school experience integrated into their daily curriculum, for children in Early Years routinely, but also to enrich the curriculum for children of all year groups in the school particularly for reflecting on Climate Change and Sustainability issues and topics for the Science curriculum as well.

We also have excellent facilities to enable the delivery of the Physical Education curriculum - with a purpose laid 'artificial turf' surfaced playground to the front of the building fit for tennis coaching, an 'artificial turf' surfaced football/basketball/netball pitch as part of the back playground, and a swimming pool that can provide for the early swimming needs of children as young as 3 years old in our Nursery until the end of Key Stage 1.

We encourage you to read about our early years provision and our curriculum else where on this site.

But most of all, if you have read this far, please come and visit. We can tell you about our school, but it is in experiencing it first hand, where all of this will truly resonate with you.
