Children say they are proud of their school because staff ‘ask us what we think to help the school be even better'. SIAMS 2017

St Luke’s School Council provides a basis for active learning of important life skills, such as speaking and listening skills, teamwork, problem-solving, self-esteem and self confidence.  The school council enables pupils to have a voice and to understand that their opinions count, and they can make a difference in school life.

School Young Leaders

St Luke’s School Young Leaders are working groups that underpin the School Council. The program provides a stepping stone into leadership that develops generic leadership skills that will be vital in other areas of life. It gives pupils increased self-confidence that comes through taking responsibility for own and others learning and enjoyment. Each leadership group plan, lead and evaluate specific projects throughout the school.

Currently the group is made up of: School Council, R.E. Ambassadors, School Travel Ambassadors, Digital Leaders and French Ambassadors.

School Council

The school council comprises of two children per class across the school. They meet every half term to discuss a key issue with a member of the senior leadership team or appropriate visitor. After the meetings the children vote on the main item for the next meeting’s agenda. These meetings have continued to take place during the Coronavirus pandemic with a dedicated Microsoft Team and the meetings taking place over Zoom. The school council recently attended an online workshop with the Parliament Education Team. Mr Griffiths, our school council lead, is a gold accredited Parliament Teacher Ambassador.

In Year 6 School Council representatives write a weekly interview with different members of staff.

In Year 3/4 School Council representatives take on the role of School Travel Ambassadors and assist with our TFL Stars Travel Plan.
