Our Year 6 pupils have once again demonstrated the power of young people to make a positive impact in their community through their involvement with a local night shelter. This initiative, hosted by St Luke’s Millwall and run by the Christian charity GrowTH, has been a cornerstone of our school’s commitment to fostering compassion and service in our students.

For the past few years, our pupils have volunteered at the shelter, lending their time and effort to help support individuals experiencing homelessness. This year’s involvement has been no exception, as the children enthusiastically took part in tasks that ranged from setting up the space to serving meals and offering warm smiles to the shelter’s guests.

The experience has been transformative for the children, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by others and the importance of giving back. Reflecting on their time at the shelter, many pupils shared how the experience has opened their eyes and inspired them to do more for their community.

In a video capturing the initiative https://www.london.anglican.org/articles/tower-hamlets-school-children-volunteering-at-the-local-night-shelter/ you can hear from The Revd Ed Dix, minister-in-charge of St Luke’s Millwall, as well as school staff, members of the GrowTH team, and the pupils themselves. Their testimonies speak volumes about the impact of this partnership and the mutual benefits of engaging young people in social action.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils for their dedication and heart. Initiatives like this remind us all that age is no barrier to making a difference.

Thank you to St Luke’s Millwall, GrowTH, and our wonderful Year 6 volunteers for being part of this meaningful collaboration.
