As part of our vision of “Hearts overflowing with truth and love,” we place great importance on listening to our children and valuing their ideas. This week we met with the School Council to gather their thoughts on how we can continue making St Luke’s a happy, caring and inspiring place to learn and play.
The children spoke confidently and positively about life at school. They told us that pupils help one another and that our HEART values guide their behaviour every day. They also said they feel the expectations and consequences are clear and fair, and that teachers follow through—something they really appreciate.
The School Council shared lots of thoughtful suggestions for playtimes and lunchtimes, including ideas for lunchtime clubs, parachute games, and ways to improve team play in football by using bibs. They were enthusiastic about opportunities to take on leadership roles, such as becoming lunchtime leaders on a rota. We also heard their ideas about lunchtime choices, including offering sandwiches more regularly and bringing back popular favourites like rice pudding.
We are incredibly proud of how maturely and respectfully the children shared their views. Their ideas help us to continue shaping a school community where every child feels heard, valued and supported.
Our learners truly are at the heart of St Luke’s, and we look forward to working with the School Council on the next steps.
